Is it ever right to kill? And under what circumstances? Is it worth the risk of being wrong?
I recently signed a petition to spare Troy Davis’ life. I also encouraged others to sign petition to save Troy Davis’ life. I don’t believe in the death penalty, never have. I don’t think killing someone stops anyone else from committing a crime.
I signed the petition for Troy Davis because seven witnesses recanted their testimony. They said police convinced them Troy Davis was guilty. And another man also confessed to the crime of killing the officer. So there was a lot of doubt about his guilt. Troy Davis never acknowledged killing the officer, not even on the day he died. Before he died, Troy Davis encouraged others to stop the death penalty.
We might have put an innocent man to death. If seven witnesses recanted their stories, why couldn’t he have been given another trial? Maybe years from now, we’ll find out he was innocent. That surely will not help his family, or anyone else.
From the time we’re kids, we’re told killing someone is wrong. And most of us don’t kill anyone ever. But there are others who were not taught the same lesson. Maybe they grew up in neighborhoods where life wasn’t considered sacred.
But no matter what someone does, the death penalty doesn’t solve any problems. People are still out there killing and not thinking twice about it. The death penalty has not deterred them.
The only reason to kill someone is in self-defense, or to save someone else’s life. I don’t think anyone has the right to kill for any other reason, and especially not the state.

Until I was repeatedly wrongfully arrested and accused, I lived my life oblivious to how low our so called police force has become.
I am sorry, but I disagree about the death penalty. For the people who intentionally lied and took an innocent man’s life, destroyed his family and all who loved him, the offending officers are not needed on this earth any longer.
Of course this is just my opinion, and we all know “officers” can do what they like, accuse who they want, get away with drug deals, and yes, even murder.
