How long do you stay angry at someone or something? What’s the longest grudge you’ve ever held? Why do you think we hold grudges?
The longest grudge I’ve ever held is a few years. I never used to be one to hold grudges, but after a few incidents, I learned to protect myself. I used to be the type that I’d get angry at someone and turn around and talk to them. But over the years, I’ve learned sometimes it’s safer to stay away from some people and have nothing to do with them. These are the sort of people who act nice in front of your face and turn around and stab you in the back. It’s just better to give up on them. It’s really not about holding grudges, it’s about protecting one’s self. I haven’t spoken to the person I mentioned in years. I discovered she wasn’t a friend but someone who was continually doing everything in her power to denigrate and lie about me. I forgave her a few times, but after one too many times of finding out she was making a mockery of our friendship, I felt safer just walking away from her and keeping her out of my life forever. If that’s holding a grudge, then it’s a grudge that’s giving me peace of mind.
