I just want your opinion on what happened to me about a week ago.
I went to the Wells Fargo bank to put in change of address. This is something I can’t change myself. I went directly to the counter, that’s the only place I can get help. The bankers never help me. I can sit waiting all day and they won’t get off their asses to say “may I help you?” Well, anyway, I gave the clerk at the counter the change of address and she made the change in the computer. She ended by saying, “Is there anything else I can help you with? I replied, No.” I left the bank and went down the stairs, halfway across the parking lot, and then remembered I had a question about a new service charge the bank’s charging me. There was no one at the counter when I ran back into the bank. I asked the woman about the service charge. She didn’t ask for my I.D., or even ask for my account. She didn’t need any of this information. She was still in my account. I did not like the idea of the clerk still nosying around in my account. About four minutes passed before I returned to the bank, what right did she have to still be checking out things in my account? I told her to close the account. I asked her, “Did you close my account?” She replied, “Yes“. I made her turn the computer toward me so that I could see if she closed out my account. I didn’t feel comfortable about what she did, so I went to the bank manager and explained what happened. The bank manager explained to me that’s what clerks do to bring in more business. They look through our accounts to see if there’s some business they can recommend to us. Somehow, what the manager told me did not satisfy me. I still feel uncomfortable with what the clerk was doing. If this happened to you, would you feel safe having a clerk do this?
Update: The woman teller seems to not be employed at Wells Fargo anymore. I think she wasn’t supposed to be looking at my account.
