Today I’m typing a short post. It is about a poem written during Hitler‘s years.

This poem (?) was written by Pastor Martin Niemoller, who was a Germany Pastor.  In the beginning, he was a fan of Hitler, but soon realized  Hitler’s true nature.  He turned against Hitler and was imprisoned.  I wrote the poem with a question mark next to it, because he didn’t write the poem.  He wrote the words at different times, and the words somehow became a poem. Also there are different versions of the poem, so you might see poems that don’t say exactly the same thing.

First they came for the Communists,

and I didn’t speak out

because I wasn’t a Communists.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists,

and I didn’t speak out

because I wasn’t a Trade Unionists.

Then they came for the Jews,

and I didn’t speak out

because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for me,

and there was no one left

to speak for me.

And  today, some 65+ years later, they’re after me, and million of others.  Will the same thing happen this time?

Today the same thing is happening and no one wants to listen. What does it take for people to listen?  And when people listen, will it be too late?

I hope by reading the poem, you’ll open your mind to the possibility that what happened during the Hitler years might be happening again.
